The Many Saints of Newark is a Sopranos prequel that doesn't, as farther as we know, involve any of the HBO series' original cast. But it nearly turned out differently.
Director Alan Taylor told NME that the show's Carmela Soprano role playe Edie Falco filmed a scene for the spinoff. It would accept been Falco's first ex officio reprisal of the role since 2007's dissentious Travel-backed, cut to blackened finish.
"We had Edie come out and she garbed up as Carmela and we shot something with her and it wound up not beingness in the final movie but information technology was a great excuse to visualise her again," Taylor said.
Taylor as wel hints that Carm's function was likely to open prepared The Many Saints of Newark as a framing device – but the constructive team ultimately went in a several direction.
"In that respect was some confusion every bit to how best plunge the movie. How to kickoff the picture," Taylor explained. "So we reliable few things and that was one of them. If you've seen the movie you'll interpret that we commenc it in a very different way of life now but that wasn't always the estimate."
It's not yet known whether we'll be able to ever get a peek at Carmela Soprano's cut return, but we hold out hope that it'll eventually be bundled onto a physical sackin at some point. Later on all, we all know the Sopranos love their Home Movies.
The Many Saints of Newark is due out in the UK on Sept 22 and in the US in theaters and on HBO Easy lay on October 1.
